Who is eligible?

  • You own the home, and you live in it as your only or main home.
  • The home must be an existing one in Scotland, and it can't be a new build.
  • A valid EPC must recommend the insulation job.

Being on benefits isn't required. If you're a private landlord, the Private Rented Sector Landlord Loan is the one to use.

Costs the scheme won't cover

  • Insulation made with spray foam.
  • Heat pumps that are hybrid, air to air or exhaust air.
  • Solar panels of the standard kind.

For jobs on solid walls, underfloor areas, flat roofs and room-in-roof spaces, you need a TrustMark registered installer.

How to apply for the Home Energy Scotland grant

  1. Get in touch with Home Energy Scotland; they give free advice and applications.
  2. Get a quote from an installer and send it in.
  3. Put your name on the funding agreement. After that, the work must be done within nine months.

Funds go to whoever applies first. Do you get a qualifying benefit, or are you 75 or older with heating that doesn't work? Warmer Homes Scotland may do the work for free.
